The paradise Partula

Partula cytherea

This is an enigmatic species that was known only from a few specimens from one valley on Tahiti. Although it was thought to be extinct for nearly 40 year it turns out that it may still exist on some of the highest parts of Tahiti. Searches will be made for surviving populations in 2017. Crampton named it cytherea in reference to an old name forTahiti - 'New Cytherea' which referred to the Society islands as the islands of love or Aprhrodite's (Cytherea) islands.
