Meyer's tree snail

Partula meyeri

In 1995 this species was discovered by Jean-Yves Meyer on the highest part of Raiatea. This area had only been visited by a biologist once before (in 1927) becasue of the difficulty in climibing the mountain. Three snails were seen in 1995 and it is thought that the population is extremely precarious and sensetive to any change in the climate. Searches will be made for surviving populations in 2017.
