The perverse Tahitian PartulaPartula otaheitana | ![]() |
One of the first Partula to be collected, and the second to be named, dating from a time when Tahiti was known as Otaheiti, with numerous spelling variants. Originally noted for its sinistral coiling; although it is mostly sinistral many individuals were dextral. It was a highly variable species found throughout Tahiti and seems to have hybridised with several other species. Today some Critically Endangered populations persist at high altitudes.
