Partula reintroduction in 2024

Reintrodutions continued in 2024 with releases on Tahiti, Moorea and Huahine. After 2023's record release of over 5,000 snails, 2024 saw another record - over 8,000! The species released comprised P. affinis, P. nodosa, P. hyalina, P. mirabilis, P. mooreana, P. suturalis, P. taeniata, P. tohiveana and P. varia. This year's releases were a great succes, with very low mortality of most released species and with the discovery of a re-established population of P. tohiveana. 13 different individuals were found, including 4 adults. This is the first Partula species to be re-established and will be the first invertebrate to be moved from the 'Extinct in the Wild' category, to 'Critically Endangered'. It is a great step forward to have confirmation that Partula conservatin works.
